We were honored recently by being able to watch local folk artist and poet John Moon decorate his car in our parking lot. He had originally come in to get a little acrylic paint just to cover up some recent repairs to his back window, but  he kept coming back into the store for more colors, saying he had gotten inspired. He allowed us to take these pictures of this abstract design in progress. (He used Amsterdam Acrylic Paint and Loew-Cornell brushes from our Sale Cart, FYI.)

You can learn more about John Moon in this video by Judy McWhillie here, and in this Flickr set here.

McWhillie is a UGA Emeritus Professor who has chronicled folk artists throughout the Southeast.

I recently looked up the work of one of our regulars, Abner Cope, because I always like to see what you artists are doing with the supplies you buy at The Loft. Here’s one of Abner’s amazing figure drawings done in charcoal. I love the light and atmosphere in this! You can view more of his work and portraiture on his website here: copegallery.com We’re gonna have to have him come give an artist talk!
