The Loft is proud to sponsor ATHICA EMERGES V: The Synthetic Mind, opening tonight at AthICA from 7-9pm. This curated group show features 9 area artists (shameless plug: most of whom I notice have frequent shopper cards here) and I can’t wait to see what they’ve created.

Loft employees Dena Zilber and Brian Hitselberger are included, demonstrating that they’re not just pretty faces with art supply knowledge, but are working artists in their own right. Come out to see the show!  –Leslie

There’s a GREAT show opening tonight (4/12) in downtown Athens at Hotel Indigo: The Flower Show.

Carol John Painting

Stop by betwen 6:30 and 9:30 for some cocktails and fine art. Didi Dunphy curated this show which includes  local ladies Rinne Allen, Kim Deakins, Susan Hable, Imi Hwangbo, Carol John (shown here) and Lou Kregel.

“Rinne Allen’s photographs give us a unique view of our neighborhood gardens, the paintings of tattoo artist Kim Deakins are graphic Himalayan-inspired figurative scenes, Imi Hwangbo’s delicate and intricate constructed cut-out drawings, Carol John’s explosion of petal paintings and Lou Kregel’s wood cuts arranged in a big bouquet will all be in The Flower Show.”–from the website

The band Old Smokey will be playing, whose members are from Ham 1, Olivia Tremor Control, and The Moths. Their sound is described as a cross between folk and Ennio Morricone.

These openings are always a lot of fun! Grab a drink at the bar, see the art, hear the music, and hang out by a firepit on the back patio on this chilly eve.

Look what they did on The Bus last year! What a great idea!

“Some Athens Transit riders found Tuesday  that their $1.50 bus fare got them a little something extra — a beginner’s lesson in knitting or crochet from the Athens Fibercraft Guild.” –Athens Banner Herald on 9/7/11
